"Israel Revealed to the Eye" is a groundbreaking community initiative that preserves and shares the visual history of Israel, its people, and its rich heritage. By inviting the public to participate as both contributors and subjects, this project strengthens the collective Israeli narrative through the preservation of personal photo albums.
Yad Yitzhak Ben-Zvi entrusted us with the creation of a website that would make it easy for users of all backgrounds to document and share photos, documents, and stories. Our mission was to design a platform that combines simplicity with sophistication, ensuring a seamless experience for everyone—from seasoned researchers to elderly users seeking cherished family memories.
A key challenge was developing a cutting-edge search engine capable of managing an extensive archive while offering advanced filtering options. After conducting in-depth research into the best search engine practices globally, we succeeded in creating a powerful tool that balances efficiency with ease of use.
In addition to the extensive archive, the website features an online store with a secure checkout system, allowing visitors to purchase high-quality prints, albums, and personalized products like custom mugs featuring images from the collection.
Given the historical nature of the content, predominantly black-and-white photos, we opted for a vibrant, modern design with a bright color palette and custom iconography that sets the website apart from other archives.
Built on the robust WordPress platform, the website is fully bilingual, responsive, and compliant with AA accessibility standards, ensuring an engaging and accessible experience for all users.
